Brookwood High School reported 1,240 African American students enrolled in the 2024-25 school year, reflecting a 1.3% increase over the prior year, according to data from the Georgia Department of Education.
Figures showed Brookwood High School’s total enrollment reaching 3,759 students for 2024-25. African American students comprised 33% of the overall student body, representing the largest demographic group in the school.
The school is part of the Gwinnett County School District, whose central office is based in Lawrenceville.
Within Gwinnett County School District’s 140 schools, Grayson High School reported the district’s largest enrollment of African American students for the 2024-25 school year at 2,089 students.
More than 1.7 million students were enrolled in Georgia public schools, as shown in the Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 report. Enrollment was most concentrated in elementary grades with 787,206 students (45.9%), followed by 388,733 students (22.7%) in middle school and 539,092 (31.4%) in high school.
Chronic absenteeism continues to affect schools across Georgia post-pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing at least 10% of school days in 2024, the Georgia Department of Education reported. As a response, GaDOE initiated a statewide effort including a real-time attendance dashboard, a public awareness campaign, and targeted assistance for high-need districts to support improved daily attendance.
In 2025, state legislators in Georgia passed a measure updating attendance laws to prohibit expulsion solely for absenteeism. The new law also introduces updated reporting requirements and aligns with alternative programs that allow students to earn diplomas through nontraditional means.
By 2026, Georgia maintained an average student-to-teacher ratio of about 14:1, which is improved compared to the national average of 15:1.
