The school’s total enrollment for 2024-25 reached 1,029 students, with African American students comprising 12% of the population, making this group the school’s second largest.
Berkmar Middle School is situated in Gwinnett County School District, whose central administration is based in Lawrenceville.
Within the 140-school district, Grayson High School had the largest number of African American students for the 2024-25 term, with 2,089 enrolled.
Georgia’s public school system enrolled more than 1.7 million students, per the Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 figures. Elementary schools had the highest numbers at 787,206 students (45.9%), followed by middle schools with 388,733 (22.7%) and high schools with 539,092 (31.4%).
Chronic absenteeism continues to present challenges in Georgia following the pandemic, as 20.7% of students missed at least 10% of school days in 2024, the Georgia Department of Education reported. To address this, GaDOE implemented a statewide effort, including real-time attendance dashboards, an awareness campaign, and additional district-level supports.
In 2025, state lawmakers revised school attendance laws to prevent expulsions based solely on absenteeism. The update also added new reporting standards and aligned policy with alternative diploma paths for students.
Georgia reported an average student-to-teacher ratio of about 14:1 as of 2026, a figure that outperforms the nationwide average of 15:1.
