For the 2024-25 school year, Bay Creek Middle School had 15 American Indian or Alaska Native students enrolled, based on figures from the Georgia Department of Education.

Total enrollment at Bay Creek Middle School reached 1,542 students during the 2024-25 school year. American Indian or Alaska Native students accounted for 1% of the student population and were the school’s smallest demographic group.

The campus is part of Gwinnett County School District, which is headquartered in Lawrenceville.

Of all 140 schools in the Gwinnett County School District, Trip Elementary School recorded the highest number of American Indian or Alaska Native students for 2024-25, with 16 enrolled.

The National Center for Education Statistics reported that Georgia public schools’ student demographics included about 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.

Chronic absenteeism continues to present challenges in Georgia schools after the COVID-19 pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing at least 10% of school days in 2024, according to the Georgia Department of Education. In response, GaDOE implemented a statewide strategy that features a real-time attendance dashboard, a public awareness campaign, and special support initiatives for districts with greater needs.

Georgia lawmakers in 2025 updated school attendance statutes to prohibit expulsions based solely on absenteeism. The changes also require additional reporting and coordinate with options that let students earn diplomas through alternative means.

As of 2026, Georgia’s average student-teacher ratio was about 14:1, which compares favorably to the national average of 15:1.
