Brookwood Elementary School reported 270 white students enrolled for the 2024-25 academic year, a decline of 16.9% compared to the prior year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.
The school’s data indicated a total enrollment of 1,425 students. White students comprised 19% of the total, making them the third-largest demographic group represented at Brookwood Elementary School.
Situated in the Gwinnett County School District, the school is served by a central office in Lawrenceville.
Within the district’s 140 schools, North Gwinnett High School had the largest number of white students enrolled in the 2024-25 academic year, with 1,113 students.
Statewide, more than 1.7 million students attended Georgia public schools, according to the Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 report. Elementary grades accounted for the largest share, enrolling 787,206 students (45.9%), with 388,733 middle school students (22.7%) and 539,092 high school students (31.4%).
Chronic absenteeism continues to challenge Georgia schools post-pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing 10% or more school days in 2024, per the Georgia Department of Education. To address this, GaDOE launched a statewide effort that includes a real-time attendance dashboard, a public awareness campaign, and additional support for districts with high levels of absenteeism.
In 2025, Georgia lawmakers enacted changes to school attendance laws, prohibiting expulsion solely for absenteeism. The legislation added new reporting requirements and aligned with programs offering alternative paths for students to earn high school diplomas.
By 2026, Georgia’s student-to-teacher ratio averaged approximately 14:1, which was better than the national average of 15:1.
