During the 2024-25 school year, Camp Creek Elementary School counted 293 African American students among its student population, a 6.7% decrease from the prior year, data from the Georgia Department of Education shows.
The school’s total student enrollment reached 1,398 for 2024-25. African American students comprised 21% of the population, ranking as the third-largest group enrolled.
Camp Creek Elementary is part of the Gwinnett County School District, which is headquartered in Lawrenceville.
Of the 140 schools in Gwinnett County School District, Grayson High School had the largest number of African American students in 2024-25, enrolling 2,089 students.
A total of more than 1.7 million students attended Georgia’s public schools, according to the Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 report. The greatest enrollment was in elementary grades with 787,206 students (45.9%), followed by high school at 539,092 (31.4%) and middle school at 388,733 (22.7%).
Chronic absenteeism continues to be a significant concern for Georgia schools after the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing 10% or more of school days in 2024, according to the Georgia Department of Education. In response, the GaDOE introduced a statewide effort that includes a real-time attendance dashboard, public awareness campaigns, and focused support for high-need districts to improve daily attendance rates.
In 2025, state lawmakers revised attendance laws to prohibit expulsions solely due to absenteeism. The new legislation also introduces additional reporting obligations and works in tandem with programs offering alternative diploma pathways.
By 2026, Georgia’s average student-to-teacher ratio stood at about 14:1, which is more favorable than the national average of 15:1.
Note: Due to potential gaps in the available data, reported percentages may not total exactly 100%.
