Discovery High School enrolled 105 white students for the 2024-25 academic year, representing a 1.9% decline compared with the prior year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

Total enrollment at Discovery High School reached 2,644 students during the 2024-25 academic year. White students accounted for 4% of the student population, making them the second-smallest demographic group at the school.

The school is part of the Gwinnett County School District, which operates from its central office in Lawrenceville.

Across the district’s 140 schools, North Gwinnett High School reported the largest number of white students for the 2024-25 academic year, enrolling 1,113 students.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, public school student demographics in Georgia were approximately 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.

Chronic absenteeism continues to impact Georgia schools after the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing at least 10% of school days in 2024, according to the Georgia Department of Education. In response, GaDOE introduced a statewide initiative that features a real-time attendance dashboard, a public education campaign, and targeted support for districts with high absenteeism to encourage improved attendance.

In 2025, Georgia lawmakers enacted updates to school attendance laws, prohibiting expulsion solely for absenteeism. The changes also require additional reporting and support alternative diploma programs for students.

By 2026, Georgia’s average student-to-teacher ratio was about 14:1, outperforming the national average of 15:1.
