Discovery High School registered 1,507 Hispanic students for the 2024-25 school year, reflecting a 1.4% decrease from the prior year, as data from the Georgia Department of Education indicates.

Total enrollment at Discovery High School reached 2,644 students for 2024-25. Hispanic students constituted 57% of the student body, making them the school’s largest demographic group.

The school is part of Gwinnett County School District, headquartered in Lawrenceville.

Out of 140 schools in the Gwinnett County district, Berkmar High School recorded the largest Hispanic student enrollment in 2024-25 with 2,072 students.

Data from the National Center for Education Statistics breaks down the racial and ethnic demographics of Georgia’s public school students as about 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.

Chronic absenteeism remains a significant concern across Georgia schools post-pandemic, with 20.7% of students absent for at least 10% of school days in 2024, as reported by the Georgia Department of Education. In response, GaDOE launched a statewide attendance effort that includes a real-time attendance dashboard, publicity campaigns, and added support for high-need districts to promote daily attendance.

In 2025, Georgia passed a measure revising attendance statutes to prohibit expulsion solely based on absenteeism. This law also adds reporting duties and supports diploma pathways through alternative programs.

By 2026, Georgia maintained an average student–teacher ratio of about 14:1, outperforming the national average of 15:1.
