Girls flag football teams, the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, the Atlanta Falcons, and State Representative Brent Cox will hold a press conference on May 15, 2025, at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The event aims to encourage Georgia high schools to establish girls flag football teams.

House Resolution 347, sponsored by Rep. Brent Cox during the 2025 legislative session, was adopted by the Georgia House of Representatives. It urges all Georgia high schools to create girls flag football teams. This makes Georgia’s House the first legislative body in the U.S. to adopt such legislation. Currently, over 100 colleges have varsity flag football programs for women and girls, and this resolution encourages high schools to follow suit. Cosponsors of HR 347 include House Majority Leader Chuck Efstration and State Representatives Rick Jasperse, Lydia Glaize, Demetrius Douglas, and Chas Cannon.

Rep. Cox expressed gratitude for bipartisan support: “This resolution is the first of its kind in the country urging high schools to create girls flag football programs.” He thanked Speaker Jon Burns and colleagues for their support and acknowledged contributions from the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation and the Atlanta Falcons: “I extend my heartfelt gratitude…for their efforts to expand this great sport for girls in Georgia.”

Rep. Cox emphasized the importance of athletics: “We know how important athletics are to Georgia’s students and the sense of community they bring.” He highlighted flag football as a fast-growing sport that should be supported by high schools.

Rich McKay, CEO of AMB Sports and Entertainment and AMBFF Associate Board Member, stated: “The Atlanta Falcons and the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation are greatly appreciative of the adoption of HR 347 by the Georgia House of Representatives.” He noted remarkable growth in girls flag football in Georgia and expressed hope for every high school offering it as a varsity sport.

The press conference will feature representatives from various organizations involved in promoting girls’ sports across Georgia.
