Rep. Lucy McBath, a U.S. Congress member representing Georgia’s 7th district since 2019, has been vocal on social media about her ongoing efforts and concerns regarding gun violence and disability rights. Her tweets reflect her commitment to these issues.
On June 3, 2025, Rep. McBath highlighted the significance of Gun Violence Awareness Month by stating, “June is Gun Violence Awareness Month. We recognize the heartbreaking toll that gun violence has in our communities.” She emphasized her dedication to finding “common-sense solutions” to end gun violence in memory of those lost, including her son Jordan.
The following day, on June 4, 2025, she questioned decision-makers regarding their stance on policies affecting disabled students in Georgia. She tweeted, “Seems like a simple answer to me… do you stand by your decision or not? Disabled students and their families in Georgia would like to know.”
Later that day, Rep. McBath reiterated her focus on Gun Violence Awareness Month by announcing collaborative efforts with fellow Congress members. She wrote, “All through Gun Violence Awareness Month, I’ll be joined by my colleagues in Congress to share stories that motivate them to end gun violence.” She encouraged others to listen and share their own stories.
Lucy McBath was born in Joliet, Illinois in 1960 and currently resides in Marietta. She graduated from Virginia State University with a BA in 1982.
