The Bill Atkinson Animal Welfare Center in Lawrenceville, Georgia, is currently experiencing critical capacity and is actively seeking volunteer foster homes for animals that require additional care before adoption.

“Some animals that enter the center need a little extra care before they’re ready to find their adoptive home,” said Katrina Helman, Director of the Gwinnett Animal Welfare and Enforcement Division. “Fostering is a great way to make a difference in an animal’s life without the long-term commitment of adoption. It gives these pets a chance to thrive while also helping open space for other animals in need.”

Foster homes are necessary for various situations, including for pets too young or small for adoption, animals recovering from illness or injury, those that are under-socialized, or pets in protective custody. Foster homes are supported with veterinary resources and supplies, such as food and leashes, provided at no cost.

Adoption fees are currently waived for individuals ready to adopt a shelter pet. All pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated at no charge before adoption.

Interested parties can view available pets or learn more about fostering or adopting by visiting GwinnettAnimalWelfare.com. The Bill Atkinson Animal Welfare Center is located at 884 Winder Highway in Lawrenceville.
