The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners has approved several transportation and infrastructure contracts, focusing on safety improvements, road resurfacing, and partnerships with the Georgia Department of Transportation. These decisions were made during the Board’s meeting on April 1.
E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc. was awarded a contract valued at $4.77 million for construction on Beaver Ruin Road and Center Way bridges over Interstate 85. The project, which includes crosswalk installations at the Center Way and Brook Hollow Parkway intersection, is financed by the 2017 SPLOST program. It aims to enhance pedestrian safety and was the sole bid received.
Resurfacing efforts will see $12.7 million in contracts allocated to The Scruggs Company dba Sunbelt Asphalt Surfaces, Inc. and Triple R Paving and Construction, LLC. This funding will support the resurfacing of over 43 centerline miles of residential streets in this cycle, with an overall goal of rehabilitating more than 200 miles this year. Sunbelt Asphalt will handle the north section of the county, while Triple R will oversee the central east and west sections.
The Board also renewed an annual contract with Highway Markings, LLC for pavement marker installation. These low-profile raised markers are intended to improve road safety by enhancing visibility. The $130,000 contract is equally funded by the 2017 SPLOST Program.
Additionally, the Board, in collaboration with the Georgia Department of Transportation, approved Supplemental Agreement No. 1 for the SR 316 Interchange at Fence Road and SR 8/Winder Highway. This agreement facilitates right-of-way acquisition, supported by an extra $6.22 million in state funding, raising the total state contribution to $14 million.
