The Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center will be illuminated in green from November 4 to 11 as part of Operation Green Light for Veterans. This national initiative is intended to show support for veterans and highlight the resources available to them.

Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson said, “Participating in Operation Green Light is one way we let our veterans know that we see them. In addition to offering thoughtful, beneficial services and resources to veterans and their families, our hope is that this gesture shows these brave service members that we support them and honor the sacrifices they’ve made to protect our country.”

Residents, businesses, and organizations in Gwinnett are encouraged to participate by displaying green lights at their homes or buildings during the week.

Events honoring veterans will begin with a proclamation presentation at 2 p.m. on November 4. The county will host its annual Veterans Day Ceremony from 11 a.m. to noon on November 11 at the Fallen Heroes Memorial located at 75 Langley Drive in Lawrenceville. Following this ceremony, Chairwoman Hendrickson’s Gwinnett County Stand Down event will take place from noon until 2 p.m., also at the Fallen Heroes Memorial, providing resources and services for veterans and their families. Registration is encouraged but not required; more information can be found at GwinnettCounty.com/VeteransStandDown.

Later that day, a celebration marking the 20th anniversary of the Gwinnett Veterans Memorial Museum will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse, located at 185 Crogan Street in Lawrenceville. The event is free for adults aged 21 and over but requires registration.

Operation Green Light was launched five years ago by the National Association of Counties as a nationwide effort uniting counties in supporting military veterans. It aims to raise awareness about challenges faced by veterans and inform them about assistance available through various government levels.

Recent data indicates that enrollment in Gwinnett County schools grew by less than one-tenth of one percent during the most recent school year (https://www.gadoe.org/). Total student enrollment reached over 190,000 students (https://www.gadoe.org/), with white students making up approximately eighteen percent of the student body (https://www.gadoe.org/).
