Gwinnett County will hold its annual Hispanic Latino Heritage Month celebration, Fiesta Familia, on Friday, October 10, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The event will take place at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center Plaza in Lawrenceville.

The theme for this year’s event is “Defining Culture and Influence.” According to the county, the celebration will focus on the voices, stories, and impacts of Hispanics and Latinos who have shaped industries, communities, and the broader cultural landscape.

Speakers at the event will include Muriam Nafees, Director of the Community Engagement and Social Impact Division, as well as representatives from the Gwinnett Youth Commission. The program will also feature vendors offering traditional Hispanic and Latino cuisine and performances.

“Fiesta Familia” is part of the county’s ongoing efforts to recognize the contributions of its diverse population. In the 2022-23 school year, Gwinnett County schools enrolled a total of 190,044 students, with enrollment increasing by less than 0.1% compared to the previous year, according to data from the Georgia Department of Education (https://www.gadoe.org/). White students made up 18% of the student body during that period (https://www.gadoe.org/).

The county says this event is designed to honor the vibrant heritage, culture, and influence of Hispanic and Latino residents in Gwinnett.

“This year’s theme, ‘Defining Culture and Influence,’ centers on voices, stories and impacts of Hispanics and Latinos that have shaped our industries, communities and the broader cultural landscape,” organizers stated in an announcement.
