Gwinnett County has unveiled two new sculptures at the Bicentennial Plaza and Trailhead in downtown Lawrenceville. The installations, titled “Make A Wish” and “Vibrantly Connected,” were celebrated by county officials on Monday.
The sculpture “Make a Wish,” designed by Georgia artist David Landis, weighs 11,000 pounds and features a stainless-steel clover forest. This interactive piece allows visitors to explore and discover a four-leaf clover to make a wish.
At the trailhead, “Vibrantly Connected” stands 12 feet tall with three polished stainless-steel ginkgo leaves intersecting to form negative space that reflects the Gwinnett logo. This piece symbolizes resilience, unity, and diversity within the county. The ginkgo was selected for its historical significance as one of the oldest tree species known for its strength.
Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson stated, “Public art enhances public spaces and connects, unifies and inspires communities.” She added that these sculptures reflect Gwinnett’s spirit by celebrating its vibrant community and over 200 years of history.
District 3 Commissioner Jasper Watkins III remarked on the significance of these installations: “This public art installation celebrates imagination, identity, and the experience of being part of something bigger.”
The Bicentennial Plaza and Trail have been integral parts of Gwinnett County since their dedication in 2018 during the county’s bicentennial celebrations.
