The Gwinnett Solicitor General’s Office has announced the creation of a Special Victims Unit dedicated to supporting victims of certain sensitive misdemeanor offenses, including sex crimes, vehicular homicides, stalking, pandering, and prostitution. The unit aims to address the particular challenges of these cases, with a focus on those involving teenagers aged 13 to 18, which require specific resources and legal attention due to recent developments in Georgia law.

“Establishing the Special Victims Unit is a significant step toward ensuring every victim in Gwinnett County receives the attention and care they deserve,” stated Solicitor-General Lisamarie N. Bristol. “By dedicating specialized resources to these sensitive cases, we’re not only enhancing our legal response but also reaffirming our commitment to compassionate and effective justice.”

The unit will also act as the principal contact for animal cruelty and neglect cases within Gwinnett County State Court. The team comprises an Assistant Solicitor General, investigators, victim advocates, and trial assistants, enabling the office to process cases more efficiently, while providing specialized training and development opportunities for staff.

The Solicitor General’s Office, responsible for prosecuting misdemeanor crimes, traffic offenses, and county ordinance violations, aims to improve the standard of victim services in Gwinnett with the establishment of this unit. Additional information about the Special Victims Unit can be accessed at GwinnettSG.com.
