U.S. Representative Lucy McBath, who serves Georgia’s 7th district in Congress, addressed a range of issues on her Twitter account on January 8, 2026, including gun violence prevention, an incident involving ICE in Minneapolis, and recent health care legislation.

In her first post of the day, McBath referenced the ongoing advocacy of Gabby Giffords: “Fifteen years after surviving a devastating act of gun violence, my friend Gabby remains a leading voice for gun safety. Her leadership saves lives every day. @GabbyGiffords, I’m grateful to stand with you in this fight.” (January 8, 2026).

Later that afternoon, she responded to news about a shooting involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minneapolis: “I am deeply troubled and angered by the shooting of Renee Good by ICE in Minneapolis. My heart is with her family and loved ones as they mourn this unimaginable loss. The American people deserve answers. I am calling for a full, transparent investigation into ICE’s actions to” (January 8, 2026).

That evening, McBath commented on legislative action taken by House Democrats: “Together, House Democrats just PASSED a bipartisan bill to extend health care cost savings for the American people. I was a strong YES because no person should have to give up their care just because the price went up.” (January 8, 2026).

McBath has represented Georgia’s 7th district since replacing Karen Handel in Congress in 2019. In the most recent general election held in 2024, she secured reelection against Jeff Criswell with approximately three-quarters of the vote.
