Rep. Lucy McBath, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Georgia’s 7th district since 2019, addressed issues of public health and gun violence in a series of posts on April 17, 2026.
In one post from that day, McBath criticized Secretary RFK Jr.’s priorities: “Secretary RFK Jr. has spent more time regulating fluoride than addressing the gun violence epidemic. Guns are the leading cause of death for our kids and certainly pose more of a threat than fluoride. The American people deserve better from their leaders.” (April 17, 2026).
Later that day, she highlighted her legislative efforts: “Since coming to Congress, I’ve led legislation to improve health outcomes. Read more about the 2026 ‘Momnibus’ and our Extending WIC for New Moms Act.” (April 17, 2026).
She also drew attention to racial disparities in maternal health during Black Maternal Health Week: “This Black Maternal Health Week, we continue to raise awareness of the crisis facing mothers and babies. In Georgia, women of color are still far more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes. We must keep improving access to care and accountability that protects every family.” (April 17, 2026).
McBath has served as Georgia’s representative since defeating Jeff Criswell in the general election with nearly three-quarters of the vote in 2024. She succeeded Karen Handel in Congress after winning her seat in 2019 and continues to reside in Marietta at age 62 after graduating from Virginia State University with a BA in 1982.
