Rep. Lucy McBath, serving Georgia’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress since 2019, has been vocal on social media regarding the funding challenges facing Head Start programs. Her recent posts highlight her efforts to combat potential cuts by the Trump Administration.
On May 2, McBath shared that “Funding to Head Start is under threat from Republicans and the Trump Administration.” She expressed her commitment to fighting these threats by visiting the Chattahoochee Early Learning Center in Atlanta, where she met with children, teachers, and advocates from the YMCA who could be significantly impacted by such cuts.
In another post on May 2, McBath noted a positive development: “Today, a revised budget from the White House was published and cuts to Head Start were left out.” While recognizing this as a favorable sign, she emphasized the importance of continued advocacy for Head Start programs which provide essential care for children of working families.
On May 5, McBath reiterated her opposition to funding threats by stating “Funding for Head Start is under threat by the Trump Administration, but we won’t let cuts happen quietly.” She mentioned her active role in Congress to protect these vital programs and recounted her visit to a Head Start site with gratitude towards educators involved.
Lucy McBath was born in Joliet, Illinois in 1960 and currently resides in Marietta. She holds a BA from Virginia State University obtained in 1982.
