Rep. Lucy McBath, U.S. Congresswoman representing Georgia’s 7th district since 2019, addressed a range of policy issues in recent social media posts, including retail crime, voting rights, and support for students with disabilities.
On May 12, McBath posted about her recognition during National Police Week, stating: “I am honored to be recognized during National Police Week as a Congressional Retail Crime Fighter for supporting the Combating Retail Crime Act. I am grateful for the law enforcement officers working tirelessly to keep our communities safe.”
The following day, on May 13, she commented on the ongoing struggle for voting rights: “Our democracy didn’t become more inclusive by accident. It became stronger because people organized, marched, and demanded equal access to the ballot box. The fight for voting rights did not begin with this court and it will not end with this decision.”
On May 14, McBath raised concerns about support for students with disabilities: “Students with disabilities deserve stability, not disruption. I pressed Education Secretary Linda McMahon on the decision to end the Charting My Path for Student Success program mid-year and urged her to reinstate this vital support for students and families.”
McBath has served in Congress since replacing Karen Handel in 2019 and currently resides in Marietta. She was born in Joliet, Illinois in 1960 and graduated from Virginia State University in 1982 with a BA. In the most recent general election held in 2024, she defeated Jeff Criswell by securing nearly three-quarters of the vote.
