Rep. Lucy McBath, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Georgia’s 7th district, marked the fifth anniversary of the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol with a series of posts reflecting on the event and its aftermath.
On January 6, 2026, McBath posted: “Today, we remember 5 years since the terrifying January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol and honor the Capitol Police officers who continue to stand on the front lines to protect our democracy. We thank you for your courage, service, and sacrifice.
Please join me in honoring the” (January 6, 2026).
In another post made on the same day, she addressed recent pardons related to those involved in the events at the Capitol: “Because Trump pardoned the insurrectionists, these officers and their families live with the knowledge that their violent attackers have been set free.

Later that evening, McBath reaffirmed her support for law enforcement affected by January 6: “House and Senate Democrats stand with the families of those brave members of law enforcement we lost on January 6th five years ago.

Lucy McBath has served in Congress since replacing Karen Handel in 2019 and currently represents Georgia’s 7th district. In her most recent election in 2024, she defeated Jeff Criswell with approximately three-quarters of the vote.
The January 6 attack remains a significant point of discussion among lawmakers as they reflect on its impact on American democracy and public safety.
