U.S. Representative Lucy McBath, who serves Georgia’s 7th district, marked two significant anniversaries on her social media this week, reflecting on personal loss and national tragedy while renewing her call for gun safety reforms.
On February 14, 2026, McBath commemorated the eighth anniversary of the Parkland shooting, posting: “Today, we honor the 17 lives lost in the tragic mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, eight years ago. We carry their memory and legacy with us every day, letting their courage inspire us to keep fighting for gun safety and safer”.
Two days later, on what would have been her son Jordan’s 31st birthday, McBath wrote: “Today should be my Jordan’s 31st birthday. A day we would have spent together. His birthday reminds us of the future he should have had and the urgent work still before us. Every day, too many families across America experience the same unimaginable loss. Jordan’s memory fuels my”. In a subsequent post on February 16, she added: “Jordan’s legacy is my compass, and I will never stop fighting until every community is made safe and every voice is heard. Happy Birthday, Jordan! I carry you in my heart and in this fight.”
McBath has represented Georgia’s 7th District since 2019 after replacing Karen Handel. She was re-elected in 2024 by defeating Jeff Criswell with nearly three-quarters of the vote. Born in Joliet, Illinois in 1960 and currently residing in Marietta, McBath graduated from Virginia State University with a BA in 1982.
Her advocacy for gun safety stems from personal experience; her son Jordan Davis was shot and killed in Florida in 2012—a case that brought national attention to “stand your ground” laws.
