In the 2024-25 school year, Magill Elementary School enrolled 12 Asian students—a 52% decrease from the prior year, the Georgia Department of Education reported.
The school’s total enrollment reached 1,238 students during the same period. With Asian students comprising just 1% of the student population, they represented one of the school’s smallest demographic groups.
Magill Elementary School is part of Gwinnett County School District, which is managed from its main office in Lawrenceville.
Within Gwinnett County School District’s 140 campuses, North Gwinnett High School reported the largest Asian student enrollment for the 2024-25 school year with 1,023 students.
According to the Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 report, public schools in the state served more than 1.7 million students. The highest enrollment was in elementary grades at 787,206 students (45.9%), followed by 388,733 in middle school (22.7%) and 539,092 in high school (31.4%).
Chronic absenteeism persists at significant levels in Georgia schools after the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing 10% or more school days in 2024, according to the Georgia Department of Education. In response, GaDOE introduced a comprehensive plan featuring a real-time attendance dashboard, awareness campaigns, and tailored support for districts with high needs to improve daily attendance nationwide.
In 2025, new Georgia legislation updated attendance policies, prohibiting students from being expelled solely due to absenteeism. The law now requires additional reporting and incorporates strategies for alternate diploma pathways.
By 2026, Georgia recorded an average student-to-teacher ratio of roughly 14:1, compared to the national average of 15:1.
