Rep. Lucy McBath announced on May 4 the winners of the 2026 Sixth District Congressional Art Competition at a reception held at the Cultural Arts Council Douglasville. The event gathered students and their families to recognize artistic achievements from high school students across Georgia’s Sixth Congressional District.

The competition is an annual opportunity for young artists to showcase their talents, with submissions representing a variety of schools in the district. This year, there were 25 entries from ten different high schools. A digital gallery featuring all submissions is available on McBath’s website at https://mcbath.house.gov/art-competition.

“I am so proud of how well-represented our entire district was in this competition,” McBath said. “It is a joy each year to celebrate the talent and creativity on display by young people in our community. I give thanks to their parents and teachers who helped inspire a love of the arts at such a young age. Congratulations to our winners and to all our competing students!”

The first-place award went to Sarah Vinnik for her piece “Out of The Moment” (North Atlanta High School). Tim Wang earned second place with “Still Face” (Woodward Academy), while Amya Newell received third place for “Crossandra” (McEachern High School). According to details provided by McBath’s office, Vinnik’s artwork will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel at the U.S. Capitol, Wang’s piece will be shown in McBath’s Washington, D.C., office, and Newell’s work will be featured in her Atlanta district office.

Lucy McBath has served as U.S. Representative since replacing Karen Handel in 2019 according to Wikipedia. She currently represents Georgia’s Seventh District after winning reelection against Jeff Criswell with over seventy-four percent of votes as reported by The New York Times. Born in Joliet, Illinois, she now resides in Marietta according to her congressional biography, and graduated from Virginia State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree according to Wikipedia.

Looking ahead, participants and supporters can view all student artworks online as part of ongoing efforts by McBath’s office to promote youth engagement through art.
