On Saturday, November 1, Representative Lucy McBath (GA-06) held a ceremony in Atlanta to honor 40 veterans of the Vietnam War. The event also recognized the families of three deceased Vietnam veterans. This was the eighth Pinning Ceremony organized by McBath since she took office in 2019. Her office has now honored a total of 172 veterans who served during the Vietnam War era.
“Through the years, I am so proud to have recognized so many Vietnam era veterans for their service to America,” McBath said. “This weekend’s ceremony was a necessary step for each veteran and their family towards a proper, public recognition of gratitude on behalf of the United States. I am humbled by the opportunity to be a voice for veterans in Congress, and grateful for the chance to have honored so many veterans at these ceremonies.”
The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration began in 2008 to recognize Vietnam War veterans and honor their contributions. Veterans from various branches—including the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps—were presented with commemorative lapel pins and certificates during the ceremony. The official period marking the 50th Commemoration of the Vietnam War is set to end later this year.
Lucy McBath currently serves as a member of Congress representing Georgia’s 7th district after replacing Karen Handel in 2019. In 2024, she won re-election against Jeff Criswell with approximately 75% of the vote.
