Effingham County Prison inmate Kevin David Lenix Wilson is back in custody after a suspected door malfunction Jan. 3 gave him access to an unsecured area and allowed him to escape.
A report by FOX 5 Atlanta states Wilson, 32, was being held on charges including three counts of malice murder, one count of felony murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon for an incident that happened May 13, 2020, in Savannah.
Wilson was taken into custody Jan. 7 after authorities found him at a hotel off Ogeechee Road in Savannah, according to WJCL 22.
The Savannah Police Department, SWAT, the department's strategic investigative unit and gang unit helped apprehend Wilson following an active search, the report states.
Authorities think Wilson was able to escape due to a door that malfunctioned during recent storms, although they also said human error was partly to blame, WJCL reported.
