GOP gubernatorial candidate David Perdue is facing criticism due to an ad that shows him shaking hands with a former deputy accused of child pornography.
Director of Communications and Senior Advisor for the Brian Kemp campaign Cody Hall said that Perdue needed to take the video down immediately.
"David Perdue should immediately take down this TV ad that highlights him shaking hands with a child predator and apologize to the victims of Grady Sanford's atrocious criminal behavior," said Hall. "Perdue's use of this footage to score political points for his failing campaign is absolutely reprehensible. Georgians deserve better in their governor.”
According to Fox 5 Atlanta, a portion of the ad had Perdue shaking hands with Grady Sanford, a former Forsyth County Sheriff's Office chief deputy who was fired after being apprehended on child porn charges in 2020.
The National Center of Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) informed the Georgia Bureau of Investigation that photos depicting child sexual abuse were linked by researchers to Sanford’s internet history.
According to Fox 5 Atlanta, authorities were able to follow an email during the investigation to Sanford's home in Canton.
