Republican former Vice President Mike Pence has thrown his support behind Republican Gov. Brian Kemp as he seeks another four-year term leading the Peach State in a highly challenged election.
Pence is expected to headline a rally to excite Kemp's base ahead of Georgia's May 24 primary election, a recent FOX 5 Atlanta report said.
"Brian Kemp is my friend, a man dedicated to faith, family and the people of Georgia," Pence said in a statement, quoted by FOX 5. "I am proud to offer my full support for four more years of Brian Kemp as governor of the great state of Georgia."
Kemp faces several Republican challengers in the upcoming primary, including former U.S. Sen. David Purdue, who has received former President Donald Trump's endorsement, the report said.
Kemp received a lot of blame from the former president for his loss in Georgia during the 2020 general election, the report said. Trump later pressured Pence into overturning the results, but Pence publicly insisted he never had the power or authority to do so.
The Pence rally is scheduled for May 23, although the time and location for the event have not yet been officially released.
