A local man has been charged with possessing a weapon on school property after a school resource officer spotted him outside a high school football game with a rifle.
In a recent report by FOX 5 Atlanta, District spokesperson Bernard Watson commended the officer, saying they did a great job of identifying and neutralizing a potential threat.
"They told the person to stop, drop the weapon and that person obeyed those commands," Watson told FOX 5 Atlanta.
Officers say they found two weapons on Brian Garfield Fort during a subsequent search in the school parking lot, the report states.
According to the report, the incident involving Fort comes just weeks after the Archer High principal sent a letter home to parents alerting them that a student brought a gun to the school.
The criminal investigation is still ongoing, and school officials say they do not know why Fort was on school grounds or if he has any affiliation with the school whatsoever, FOX 5 reports.
