How many inmates sentenced to serve in Gwinnett County might be released during March?

The sentences of 14 inmates in Gwinnett County could be completed in March, releasing them from the custody of the Georgia Department of Corrections.

These inmates have a maximum possible release date that falls in March. The State considers these dates as when the longest-running sentence with time served for a criminal is set to expire. The actual release date of those incarcerated in Georgia jails could happen earlier due to the inmate being granted clemency.

The inmate who could be released during March who served the longest amount of time was Ricky Leon Parrish Jr. for Aggravated Child Molestation. Ricky Leon Parrish Jr. spent more than 30 years incarcerated.

Georgia imprisons a higher percentage of its population than any other democracy in the world, locking up 968 per 100,000 people.

Georgia’s crime rate increased in recent years, leading to higher incarceration numbers and more taxpayer money spent on prisoners.
