Ferguson Elementary School had 25 white students enrolled for the 2024-25 school year, unchanged from the prior year, Georgia Department of Education data shows.
The school’s total student enrollment was 842 in 2024-25, with white students accounting for 3% of the population—one of the smallest demographic groups at Ferguson.
Ferguson Elementary School is part of Gwinnett County School District, headquartered in Lawrenceville.
Of the 140 schools in the district, North Gwinnett High School had the largest number of white students in 2024-25, enrolling 1,113.
According to the Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 report, Georgia public schools served more than 1.7 million students. Elementary schools had the largest share, enrolling 787,206 students (45.9%), followed by 388,733 (22.7%) in middle schools and 539,092 (31.4%) in high schools.
The Georgia Department of Education reports that chronic absenteeism has continued to be an issue since the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing at least 10% of school days in 2024. To address this problem, GaDOE launched a statewide initiative that includes a real-time attendance dashboard, public awareness efforts, and targeted assistance for districts identified as high-need to improve daily attendance.
Georgia lawmakers approved legislation in 2025 to update school attendance rules, prohibiting expulsions for attendance alone, adding new reporting duties and creating pathways for students to complete their education through alternative means.
By 2026, the average student-to-teacher ratio in Georgia stood at about 14:1, according to public data, a figure lower than the national average of 15:1.
