The University System of Georgia named former Gov. Sonny Perdue as chancellor, making him the 14th person to hold the position, according to a recent report by FOX 5 Atlanta.
Among his former roles, Perdue was also previously U.S. Secretary of Agriculture under former President Donald Trump, the report states.
"I stand before you today to accept this charge to lead the system but also to be the institutions' biggest cheerleader, our students' biggest advocate and our families’ and communities' biggest supporter," Perdue told the crowd gathered inside the Georgia House chamber, FOX 5 reports.
According to the report, Harold Reynolds, the chair of the University System of Georgia Board of Regents, oversaw the investiture ceremony.
The board originally selected Perdue as their top choice for the office in 2021, but paused that April after a grassroots group of Georgia college students protested his installation, FOX 5 reports.
