Rep. Lucy McBath, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Georgia's 7th district since 2019, has expressed her concerns over recent administrative decisions affecting education in Georgia. Her comments focus on the impact of mass firings at the Department of Education and their potential consequences for students and families.

On March 12, 2025, Rep. McBath tweeted about the impact of these dismissals on financial aid programs that are essential for Georgians seeking higher education and career opportunities. She stated, "The overwhelming majority of fired employees worked in financial aid programs which help millions of Georgians attend and complete college; they supported programs for career and technical education and workforce development; they helped provide employment opportunities..."

In another tweet posted on the same day, she criticized the administration's decision as reckless, highlighting its detrimental effects on students across Georgia. McBath emphasized that this action would negatively affect nearly two million K-12 students in Georgia, with more than half coming from low-income backgrounds. She wrote, "The Administration's mass firings at the Department of Education are reckless and will devastate every student and family in Georgia."

Further addressing the issue in a subsequent tweet, Rep. McBath asserted that eliminating these positions could undermine educational success nationwide and leave families unsupported. She underscored that Congress holds the authority to make changes to federal agencies rather than the President alone. She declared her commitment alongside Democratic colleagues to protect educational resources: "Eliminating these positions threatens the success of every student in America and abandons families who rely on our support."
