A preliminary hearing was held last week at the Gwinnett County jail for two teen suspects accused of gunning down Georgia teen football star Elijah DeWitt in the mall parking lot of a Dave and Busters, a recent report by FOX 5 Atlanta said.

The two suspects, Kemare Bryan, 18, and Chandler Richardson, 19, first appeared in front of a judge on Oct. 12 after being taken into custody by police in South Carolina wearing the same clothes they wore on the day of the deadly shooting; FOX 5 reported.

"You’re going to be here for a while," a judge told each defendant at the time. A superior court judge is the only one able to set bond on the felony charges, meaning the suspects will need to wait until another hearing is set.

DeWitt was a star wide receiver on the Jefferson High School football team, the report said. He was known as Eazy E, a nickname he earned from former NFL legend and star quarterback Cam Newton after he saw him in action on the field.

DeWitt hoped to play college football and eventually make it to the NFL, the report said.

After initially stating the motive in the shooting remained under investigation, authorities now say, "It appears that the suspects and the victim were familiar with each other, and when they encountered each other in the parking lot, an altercation took place and then the shooting."
