In a funeral service for fallen Gwinnett County police officer Scott Riner last week, family and friends gathered to pay tribute and celebrate his life.

In a recent report by FOX 5 Atlanta, Senior Pastor Dr. Frank Cox said while his Riner's life was cut short, they still know he lived a full life.

"My prayers really go out to his family. I want his family to know that he was our family as well, and we are going to get through this together," Captain Audrey Henderson, who worked with Riner, told FOX 5 Atlanta.

According to the report, police have charged 22-year-old Yahya Abdulkadir with Riner's murder, asserting that Riner got into some sort of altercation at the Gwinnett County Jail earlier this month and during the confrontation, Riner was shot, and the suspect fled the scene after being captured in the area on surveillance video.

Following the church service, a police processional was slated to transport Riner to the West View Cemetery in Monticello, Georgia, with officials having invited residents to line the route as a way of paying tribute and honoring to the fallen officer.

Riner believed his job gave him the opportunity to help people, FOX 5 reports, with inmates reaching out to the family since his passing to share how he has impacted their lives.
