As a resident of Gwinnett County, you know there is always a lot going on in the community. As thCOVID-19 vaccine rollout continues and we recover from the pandemic, stay up-to-date on the latest news from your County government.
 
Gwinnett County Government would appreciate your help keeping your neighbors informed by sharing the following information through your homeowner association newsletter, website, and emails and by talking to your friends and family.

Commissioners consider keeping 2021 General Fund millage rate the same

The Gwinnett Board of Commissioners will consider keeping the General Fund millage rate the same as last year, at 6.95 mills, during their next business meeting on Tuesday, July 20 at 2:00pm.

The Commissioners held their first of three public hearings for residents to comment on Monday, July 12. The second and third hearings will be held Monday, July 19 at 9:30am and 6:30pm in the auditorium of the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, located at 75 Langley Drive in Lawrenceville.

In addition to the public hearings, commissioners also welcome online comments about the proposed 2021 millage rates by visiting GCGA.us/MillageRateComments. The comment period closes Monday, July 19 at 9:30pm.

Entrepreneur Center now accepting applications for membership

If you’re a new business owner in financial need or one who needs a jumpstart, the Gwinnett Entrepreneur Center wants to lend a helping hand. The center is now accepting applications for membership from budding business owners! Sponsored by the Board of Commissioners in partnership with Georgia Gwinnett College, the center is an incubator to help the county’s small businesses with coworking and office space, classes, workshops, business coaching, and networking connections. The center will also offer support services to local non-member entrepreneurs.

Those interested are asked to carefully review the member handbook, tour the facility, and attend an informational webinar about the center before applying. Learn more and apply at GwinnettEntrepreneurCenter.com.

Household hazardous waste collection event on July 22

Get rid of your old paint, propane tanks, and leftover pesticides at our Household Hazardous Waste Collection event on Thursday, July 22 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds. This free event gives residents the opportunity to drop off up to five containers of HHW for recycling, reuse, or proper disposal. If your weekends are filled with sports and yard work, this is your opportunity to recycle or properly dispose of your HHW on a weekday.

Get ready for the back-to-school season at Best Friend Park

We're partnering with Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful and Gwinnett Habitat for Humanity for a community fair and back-to-school giveaway on Saturday, July 24 from 9:00am to noon at Best Friend Park in Norcross. Enjoy free food and fun activities, and meet the dedicated County government employees who serve you every day. The first 50 kids are guaranteed to receive a free backpack filled with school supplies!

In addition, the Gwinnett, Newton, and Rockdale County Health Departments will be onsite administering free COVID-19 vaccines with no appointment necessary. Best Friend Park is located at 6224 Jimmy Carter Boulevard in Norcross.

Gwinnett and Eastside Medical Center's vaccine clinic expands hours

If you haven’t received your COVID-19 vaccination yet, Gwinnett County and Eastside Medical Center are making it easier for you with a vaccination clinic in southern Gwinnett. The clinic will offer first and second doses of the Moderna vaccine for adults ages 18 and over in a building located on the hospital campus.

The clinic's new expanded hours are:

  • Tuesdays: 8:00am to 5:00pm
  • Thursdays: noon to 8:00pm
  • Fridays: 8:00am to 8:00pm (drive-thru from 5:00pm to 8:00pm)
  • Saturday, August 14 and Saturday, September 11: 8:00am to 1:00pm (drive-thru vaccinations)

The clinic is located at 1800 Tree Lane, Suite 250, in Snellville. Vaccination appointments can be scheduled here. Walk-ins are also welcomed.

Registration deadline for security alarm systems extended until August 1

The Gwinnett County Code of Ordinances requires security alarm systems to be registered with the Gwinnett Police Department. This applies to both residential and commercial alarm sites. As part of this transition, all alarm sites, including those previously registered, must submit a new registration form.

Registration can be completed online, by phone, or by downloading a paper registration form and sending it by mail. Residents need to complete their registration by August 1. Failure to register will result in an extra $25 fee for each false alarm. If you have any questions regarding your alarm account, call 833.281.8743 or visit the Gwinnett Police False Alarm Reduction Program website.

Learn how to improve your commute with Gwinnett County Transit

Transit is how we roll! People with disabilities and their families are invited to watch a virtual presentation on Monday, July 26, at 1:00pm to learn how to improve their commute using accessible transportation. The virtual presentation, shared by Gwinnett County Transit and View Point Health, features useful topics like GCT’s Travel Training program, half-fares, paratransit qualifications and the application process, and more.
