Rep. Lucy McBath, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Georgia’s 7th district since 2019, has been actively engaging with her constituents through various topics. Her recent focus has been on special education programs, maternal health, and recognition of significant contributions by women of color.
On April 10, McBath addressed concerns regarding special education in a tweet, "Each child deserves to reach their potential, and yet this Administration undermines special education programs that furnish children with disabilities with the tools to succeed. Parents deserve better than for these important programs to be shut off overnight."
The following day, April 11, she highlighted her participation in the Congressional Mamas’ Caucus through art recognition. One tweet read, "I'm proud to join my colleagues on the Congressional Mamas’ Caucus in highlighting works from 'In Her Honor,' a commemorative art project honoring women of color who have passed due to maternal health complications. 'Tiffany Mensah' from Atlanta, GA by Omari 'Muz' Maynard".
On the same day, McBath tweeted about Black Maternal Health Week, "All mothers deserve respect, love, and care. This Black Maternal Health Week, we celebrate those who give life and bring up future generations. From one proud mother to another: you are loved and you are powerful. I'm fighting to make sure you have the care you need."
Lucy McBath, born in Joliet, Illinois, in 1960 and currently residing in Marietta, has been a member of Congress working on these community-focused issues. A graduate of Virginia State University with a BA, McBath continues her efforts in advancing matters affecting her constituents and beyond.
