Board Looks to New Plan for Gwinnett County's Transit System

Genbusiness004

County of Gwinnett issued the following announcement on Jan. 21.

The Board of Commissioners is eyeing a new County Transit Development Plan and awarded a contract to Foursquare Integrated Transportation, Inc., to develop one.

Foursquare will help the Department of Transportation create a fresh new plan, focusing first on existing conditions, then identifying the needs and opportunities of Gwinnett’s transit system.

“Foursquare demonstrates a strong understanding of the Gwinnett Standard and the team brings a fresh new perspective with national experience and local passion for a new Transit Plan,” said Gwinnett DOT Director Lewis Cooksey.

This plan will increase the accessibility, connectivity and mobility of multimodal transit throughout Gwinnett and the region. The intent of the transit development plan, or TDP, is to provide GCT with information, tools and data that will support short and long-range plans for future development and capital priorities.

“Foursquare’s commitment to the County’s equity standards includes a proposed goal of providing a minimum of 35% of their contract work to Disadvantaged Business Enterprise firms,” said Transit Capital Projects Director China Thomas.

While based in Washington, DC, Foursquare has worked with several local agencies – including MARTA, Atlanta- Regional Transit Link and the Atlanta Regional Commission.

With the contract base amount of $1,485,105, the study is funded by County Transit Capital Funds and will take 18 months.
