Gwinnett police have identified the body of a local teen found dead on a neighborhood basketball court as Timothy Buchannan of Lawrenceville, according to a recent report by FOX 5 Atlanta.

While investigators said the shooter is believed to have fled the immediate area, they claim the perpetrator is unlikely to pose an imminent threat to the public.

"Detectives do have several leads on this case, so they are following up on that now as we speak," Sergeant Jenniger Richter of the Gwinnett County Police Department, told FOX 5 Atlanta.

According to the report, the body of 17-year-old Buchannan was found earlier this month sprawled across a basketball court near Mariray Court. Authorities say they are now investigating the case as a homicide and questioning witnesses and residents in the area for clues.

No arrests have been made at this time, leaving residents in the Mariray Court neighborhood to try to make sense of the senseless crime, FOX 5 reports.

While investigators seemingly have some clues in the investigation and Buchannan’s family having told Fox 5 Atlanta they are not ready to publicly talk about the case, the Gwinnett County Police are asking for the public's help in bringing the teen's killer to justice. They urge anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS(8477).
