The Board of Commissioners has approved a significant donation for Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services. Kidde’s Cause for Alarm Safety has contributed 330 smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, valued at $19,790. This contribution is timely as the holiday season often sees an increase in fires due to heightened use of heaters, holiday lights, and live trees.
Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson emphasized the importance of this donation, stating, “This generous donation is not just an investment in devices—it’s an investment in the safety and well-being of Gwinnett families.” She encouraged residents to utilize these free safety resources during the colder months when fire risks are elevated.
Since January 2021, over 32 lives have been saved thanks to Gwinnett Fire's initiative to install smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. In this period, the department has checked more than 32,800 residential locations and distributed 18,900 smoke alarms along with 5,300 carbon monoxide alarms.
Fire Chief Fred Cephas expressed gratitude towards Kidde’s Cause for Alarm Safety for their support. “We are incredibly grateful to Kidde’s Cause for Alarm Safety for its commitment to our residents,” he said. He noted that these alarms are crucial for early detection in emergencies involving fire or carbon monoxide.
Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services provides free home safety surveys year-round. These surveys include inspecting and testing smoke alarms, installing new ones if needed, providing carbon monoxide alarms, offering fire safety tips and advice, as well as reviewing escape plans.
