The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners addressed several initiatives at their meeting on December 3, 2024. Key decisions included the approval of a resurfacing grant application, a roundabout construction project, and an amendment to the Civic Center Overlay District.
The board approved applying for and accepting a Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant from the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). If awarded, this funding will be used for resurfacing various roadways in the county, particularly collectors and arterials. GDOT is expected to contribute $7.8 million with a required county match of $2.3 million. "This item is funded 77% by the Georgia Department of Transportation and 23% by the 2023 SPLOST."
Additionally, commissioners approved a contract for constructing a new roundabout at Lakeview Road, Pharrs Road, and Hillside Drive intersection. This project will include curb and gutter installation, lighting, and drainage improvements. The contract was awarded to CMC, Inc., for $2.6 million. "82% of the project is funded by the 2023 SPLOST."
The board also adopted an amendment to the Civic Center Overlay District aimed at promoting redevelopment around the Gas South District to foster a vibrant community environment. The update includes a streamlined permitting process along with land use and architectural design standards that align with the area's vision. Public hearings regarding this amendment were held on July 23 and August 27.
