County officials have inaugurated the Western Gwinnett Pathway, a five-mile trail segment stretching from Rogers Bridge Road to Suwanee Dam Road. This development is part of the County’s Trails Master Plan.

"We want residents to have a variety of mobility options that work for them," said Nicole Love Hendrickson, Chairwoman of the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners. "Walking, biking, driving and transit are all facets of a holistic approach to mobility for all. I’m excited to open this segment of the Western Gwinnett Pathway to give residents and visitors another way to explore our vibrant community."

The completed pathway will connect Norcross, Peachtree Corners, Berkeley Lake, Duluth, Suwanee, and Sugar Hill. There is also potential for extending it to Buford.

"Connecting cities through trails, sidewalks, and pathways has been a long-standing goal in the county's plans. It is exciting to see it start to come to fruition," commented Jimmy Burnette, Mayor of Suwanee.

Greg Whitlock, Mayor of Duluth, added: "The city of Duluth is excited about the completion of the Western Gwinnett Pathway. It’s another great collaboration between the cities and the county, providing a much-needed connection for everyone in Gwinnett." He emphasized Duluth's commitment towards becoming more walkable and bikeable.

Since adopting the Countywide Trails Master Plan, nearly 40 miles of trails have been constructed with an additional 40 miles either in design or under construction. The Western Gwinnett Pathway aims to link with the Loop Trail—a planned 17-mile trail connecting Shorty Howell Park with other significant locations like Gwinnett Place Mall area and Gas South District.

Funding for this $14 million project includes approximately $7 million from the County’s Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax dedicated specifically for trail development.
