Nicole Love Hendrickson begins second term as chairwoman of Gwinnett County

Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson was ceremonially sworn in for her second term as the head of the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners. The event took place in Lawrenceville, Georgia, with her family present.

Hendrickson made history in 2020 by becoming the first Black person to hold this position in Georgia's second-most populated and diverse county. Reflecting on her tenure, she emphasized her dedication to fostering an inclusive community.

"It’s an honor to have been entrusted by the residents of Gwinnett for a second term," said Hendrickson. "Strong leadership can drive meaningful change in our community and by working with residents, businesses and local organizations, we can continue to create a county that offers opportunity and equity for everyone."

During her leadership, Gwinnett County has seen several significant developments:

- She spearheaded transformative housing initiatives through the Affordable Housing Development Fund and led discussions on housing equity as chair of the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Local Leaders Housing Action Committee.

- She established Gwinnett’s first Entrepreneur Center to support small business growth by providing resources for funding, innovation, and success.

- She championed transit solutions such as microtransit programs in Snellville, Lawrenceville, and Norcross-Gateway85 area to enhance workforce mobility and economic growth.

- She led investments in community well-being including a police-clinician co-responder model for mental health crises, improved veteran services with a new Veteran and Family Services Center, and expanded services through OneStop Centerville.

Hendrickson's leadership has been acknowledged at both local and national levels. She holds key positions with the National Association of Counties including Vice Chair roles focusing on housing and urban counties. Her educational background includes a bachelor’s degree from the University of Rhode Island and a Master of Social Work from the University of Georgia.

She resides in unincorporated Lilburn with her husband Keverne and their son Kaden. More information about Chairwoman Hendrickson is available on the Gwinnett County website.
