Gwinnett County has formed an Opioid Abatement Advisory Committee following settlements from federal lawsuits against several pharmaceutical companies. These settlements have led to the state of Georgia designating Gwinnett County to receive a significant portion of funds aimed at supporting opioid abatement and remediation efforts.

The committee is tasked with reviewing applications from organizations seeking funding and providing recommendations to the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners on how to allocate these funds effectively for opioid mitigation. The committee includes members such as Gwinnett County Superior Court Judge Angela D. Duncan, Jennifer Hibbard, Tasha Edwards, and Dr. James Smith.

"This is a crucial step forward in addressing the devastating impact of opioid addiction in our community," stated Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson. "Through the work of this advisory committee, we aim to be both strategic and compassionate when allocating these resources, ensuring that the funding leads to meaningful outcomes for those most affected."
