The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners recently held a meeting on January 21, where several initiatives were approved to improve infrastructure and community services.
A contract worth $1.18 million was granted to Azimuth Contractors LLC for enhancements at the intersection of East Park Place Boulevard and Stone Mountain Highway. The project aims to alleviate traffic congestion by constructing triple left turn lanes on the northbound approach, upgrading traffic signals, and replacing sidewalks and curbs. This initiative is financed through the SPLOST program.
In another move to improve pedestrian safety, Vertical Earth Inc. secured a $1.23 million contract for sidewalk construction along Braselton Highway from Meridian Drive to Ironwood Briar Drive. This project also includes curb and gutter installations along Braselton Highway and Crabapple Circle, funded by the 2017 SPLOST program.
Additionally, the Bill Atkinson Animal Welfare Center will undergo significant renovation and expansion. The center will receive a 3,520-square-foot addition to enhance animal intake, adoption services, and training spaces. The existing K-9 unit building will be converted into specialized kennels for high-risk animals and quarantine isolation. These improvements are part of a $4.4 million contract awarded to Place Services, Inc., supported by the 2023 SPLOST funding.
These projects reflect Gwinnett County's ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and prioritize community welfare.
