FOIA Request Sent to Gwinnett County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025

FOIA Request to Gwinnett County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at South Gwinnett News have sent a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., to the Gwinnett County Election Department.

Our request is for records of all candidates running in the upcoming election. We have asked for this information preferably in an electronic format for ease of use and dissemination. The details we are seeking include each candidate's first, middle, and last name; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and their party affiliation.

In addition to these basic details about each candidate, we have also requested contact information for each individual. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

We believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities as journalists. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have also asked for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We will continue to follow up on this request and provide updates as they become available.
