Gwinnett County officials have initiated the expansion of the activity building at Dacula Park. The project will transform the existing 7,440-square-foot facility into a two-story, 34,000-square-foot community recreation center. This new center will include a full-service senior wing.
The expansion plans feature a gym with an upper-level walking track and spaces for basketball, volleyball, badminton, and pickleball. Additionally, there will be an art studio, dance room, game room, classrooms, senior lounge and wing, serving kitchen, outdoor patio, covered drop-off area at the roundabout and garden planting beds.
An additional parking area with 76 new spaces will link the building to other parts of Dacula Park.
Nicole Love Hendrickson, Chairwoman of the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners highlighted the benefits for residents: “Here, residents of all ages will find opportunities for recreation, education and socialization,” she said. “It will foster connection, combat isolation and help us ensure that every member of our community feels valued and supported.”
District 3 Commissioner Jasper Watkins III also commented on the project's impact: “This expansion is an investment in our people,” he stated. “Children will be able to explore their creativity in art and dance studios while seniors enjoy a warm meal in the congregate dining area. This facility will truly be a hub for our community.”
Funding for this project includes $12.3 million from SPLOST funds and $496,590 from a Community Development Block Grant. The designer is LOSE and Associates with Cooper Tacia General Contractors handling construction.
