Duncan Fowler, a soldier returning from a deployment in Poland, says he is unable to return home due to unwanted squatters on his property, according to a Fox News report.

Fowler, who was scheduled to return to Decatur following the completion of his year-long deployment, recently discovered that strangers were unlawfully living in his house.

"In the last two years, I’ve only been home for about eight weeks," Fowler said, "And then the chance I finally get to go home, I don’t have an actual house to go to."

Although he attempted to have the squatters removed by Dekalb County police, he was informed that they were unable to do so.

"I tried to ask them to leave," Fowler said. "They wouldn’t leave; the police have now been called on four separate occasions asking them to leave."

Fowler, who estimates the squatters moved into his home toward the end of 2021, said it was his property manager who discovered them.

Additionally, his personal belongings, including his vehicle and motorcycle, are currently being stored at this location and he is unclear of their current condition.

Fowler added that he has been advised that he would be required to go through the legal procedure to remove the squatters, which will likely mean months without a home.
