A recent public opinion poll shows incumbent Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock leads GOP nominee Herschel Walker by 10 points while Gov. Brian Kemp and challenger Stacy Abrams are deadlocked in a 48-48% tie.

The survey, conducted June 23-27 by Quinnipiac University, questioned 1,497 registered Georgia voters with an overall sampling error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points, according to a recent report by FOX 5 Atlanta.

"Herschel Walker fumbles on honesty and tumbles on favorability as Raphael Warnock surges ahead in the race for senator," Quinnipiac University polling analyst Tim Malloy told FOX 5 Atlanta.

According to results, Warnock leads Walker 54%-44% among Peach State registered voters, up some 10 points in the same survey that was taken from just the last poll in January.

This comes as results indicate Warnock’s overall 10-point lead is fueled by a 62%-33% advantage over Walker among independent voters, and a double-digit lead among females compared to Walker’s single-digit margin among males, the report states.

Since the January poll, FOX 5 reports Walker has been dogged by reports that he overinflated the success of his businesses and has been playing defense against allegations of past abuse to children he fathered out of wedlock.

A Georgia football legend, Walker joined the GOP race against Warnock last summer after months of support and encouragement to run for the Senate by former President Donald Trump, the report states. While his statewide recognition pushed him to be the front-runner for the GOP nomination, movie forward, some Republican strategists have voiced concern that he is unprepared for the fire he will receive during the general election campaign.
