Today, the Urban Redevelopment Agency of Gwinnett County announced the completion of a $16.5 million purchase of Macy’s department and furniture store properties at Gwinnett Place Mall. This acquisition is a significant step in the redevelopment plans for the area.

The site will be transformed into a mixed-use complex, aiming to bring change and opportunities to local residents and businesses. The agency, along with Gwinnett County, now owns 76 acres on the mall site.

"We are thrilled to officially secure the Macy’s properties at Gwinnett Place Mall as we continue to make rapid and deliberate forward progress in the site’s redevelopment," said Nicole Love Hendrickson, Chairwoman of Gwinnett County. She emphasized that this purchase is essential for attracting development partners in 2025.

Public input studies have highlighted community needs for the mall's redevelopment. "This acquisition is yet another exciting milestone for the future of our community," commented Kirkland Carden, District 1 Commissioner. He mentioned that new revenues and economic opportunities from this project would benefit residents and businesses.

Gwinnett County is working with CBRE, a real estate services firm, to refine redevelopment plans. The county intends to release a request for proposals nationwide in early 2025 to select a development partner. Meanwhile, Macy’s will lease back its stores for continued operations through early 2025.
