Blood donors are needed in the Lilburn-Mountain Park area, and Red Cross drives are coming up this month.
’’We’ll say thank-you with a flavorful gift in return" read a message on the Red Cross website from the American Red Cross and Zaxby's. "Come to give blood, platelets, or plasma Oct. 1-31 and receive a link by email to claim a free Zaxby’s Signature Sandwich reward!’’
People who donate blood, platelets or plasma during October will receive the offer, the Red Cross said.
Patch reported that the dates and times are 2 to 7 p.m. Oct. 4 at Harmony Grove United Methodist Church, 50 Harmony Grove Road; from 2 to 7 p.m. Oct. 6 at Lilburn Activity Bldg (LAB), 788 Hillcrest Road; and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 8 at Lilburn Police Dept, 4600 Lawrenceville Highway NW. All of these locations are in Lilburn.
The Red Cross efforts are in response to a blood shortage across the United States, Patch reported, and the organization is aiming to increase the number of Black blood donors to help patients with sickle cell anemia..
Prospective donors are required to schedule an appointment before giving blood, according to Patch. Donors are required to be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in broadly good health. Sixteen-year-olds can sometimes give blood with parental consent and all prospective donors under 18 are required to meet particular height and weight regulations, according to Patch.
